Rep. Fudge Statement on Memorial Day 2018

WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement in commemoration of Memorial Day 2018:

“Memorial Day is more than a ‘day off’ to our veterans and their families. Today, we have a sacred duty to remember and honor the brave men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces and gave their lives defending our nation’s freedom. Ohio and the entire nation are indebted to them for their service and sacrifice.

“Let us also take time today to thank the veterans who continue to serve this country and put their lives on the line every day. This day is particularly special to me as many of our nation’s veterans live in Ohio. According to the Census Bureau, over 36,000 veterans live in the 11th Congressional District. Veterans everywhere are a shining example of the strength and enduring resolve at the heart of all Americans.

“Our service men and women dutifully fight to protect our borders and preserve our democracy. We can truly honor them as a nation by ensuring our veterans receive timely medical care and adequate resources to address challenges some may have when they return to civilian life, including homelessness and mental health concerns.

“They have sacrificed so much for us. Let us remember the true purpose of this day and celebrate our soldiers and their families this Memorial Day.”
