WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) today announced the appointment of Veleter Mazyck as her Chief of Staff.  Ms. Mazyck has served as in-house counsel in urban public education for over 20 years, including General Counsel for two urban districts.  She assumed her duties with Congresswoman Fudge's office on Nov. 1, 2011.

"Ms. Mazyck has a proven record and demonstrated dedication to public service," said Congresswoman Fudge. "She has the determination and leadership skills needed to lead my staff and ensure we are proactively serving the people of Ohio's 11th District."

Background on Veleter Mazyck

Ms. Mazyck has served as in-house counsel in urban public education, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, for over 20 years.  She has served as General Counsel for the District of Columbia Public Schools and Atlanta, GA Public Schools.  She also served as Assistant Solicitor for the Pittsburgh, PA Board of Education.  In addition to traditional lead counsel duties, her work as in-house counsel included policy and legislative work as well as intergovernmental and labor relations.

Ms. Mazyck earned a Bachelor of Arts from Carnegie-Mellon University and a Juris Doctor (JD) from Duquesne University School of Law.  She is an active member in good standing of the Pennsylvania, District of Columbia and Georgia bars.

She graduated from the Broad Superintendents Academy in 2007, an intensive one-year program that trains public and private sector executives to become urban superintendents.  She has been an active member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. since 1972.

Ms. Mazyck grew up in Farrell, PA, just across the border from Youngstown, OH.  She currently resides in Washington, DC.
