Fudge, Kucinich and Sutton Secure Funding to Provide Training and Job Placement Services for 100 Returning Veterans

Cleveland, OH (February 17, 2011) - Ohio Representatives Marcia L. Fudge (D), Dennis Kucinich (D), and Betty Sutton (D) today announced $200,000 in new federal funds from the Department of Labor for the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network (MAGNET) program, to provide training and job placement services to 100 returning veterans in the manufacturing job sector.

“Our veterans have many adjustments to make as they transition from active duty to civilian life. Getting help to find a job should not be one of their challenges. I fully support the initiative by MAGNET, the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network to train returning veterans. It benefits veterans, their families and our entire community,” said Congresswoman Fudge.

“We can take care of our veterans and Northeast Ohio’s economy at the same time. Our returning military personnel deserve nothing less than a chance to make a living. They will join the skilled and motivated labor force of Northeast Ohio that makes our area one of the best places to do business,” said Kucinich

“Honoring our sacred trust with our veterans means doing all we can to help them find work when they come home.  I am proud to support the work of MAGNET to provide job training and placement services in the manufacturing sector for our veterans in Northeast Ohio.  The success of both our veterans and the manufacturing sector are vital for a strong economy in our region and our country, said Rep. Sutton.”

The primary purpose of this MAGNET program is to identify, train and match returning veterans with existing jobs that are going unfilled due to a lack of skilled applicants. The program will respond to the employment challenges and, by extension, housing challenges faced by veterans.
