Rep. Fudge Discusses Childhood Obesity and Healthy Cooking -- WKYC

CLEVELAND -- Childhood obesity has become a growing problem for America and Northeast Ohio.

First Lady Michelle Obama has created an initiative to battle this issue, and Congresswoman Marcia Fudge is joining in to help.

She stopped by WKYC to show us some healthy and easy meals to prepare, like her Turkey Dump Beans that will surprise your taste buds with its sweet side.

Ingredients (to serve 10):

6-8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)

1 pound ground turkey or turkey sausage, browned and drained

1 (16-ounce) can dark kidney beans, drained

1 (16-ounce) can light red kidney beans, drained

1 (32-ounce) can pork and beans, drained

1 (16-ounce) can yellow wax beans, drained

1 (16-ounce) can butter beans, drained

1 cup catsup½ cup packed brown sugar

1 medium onion, diced

5 tablespoons cider vinegar

3 drops liquid smoke

Method:

Combine all the ingredients in a slow cooker; stir well.

Cook on High for 1 hour; Reduce heat and cook on Low for 5 hours.
