Washington - Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge released the following statement regarding the passing of former Congressman John Conyers, Jr. “The passing of former Congressman John Conyers leaves me with a heavy heart. My sincere condolences to the Conyers family and the city of Detroit during this time of sorrow. The entire nation mourns the loss of our esteemed colleague and former Dean of the House, whose insightful leadership and unyielding dedication to public service remain an example for all of us today. “Mr. Conyers spent a lifetime defending the Voting Rights Act, advocating for criminal justice reform, and fighting for civil rights and economic equality for all Americans. A founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus, he was a champion for racial equality and a driving force behind making Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday a federal holiday. His legacy of leadership and over 50 years of service in Congress will never be forgotten.” ### |
