Rep. Fudge Statement on the Passing of Dr. Emily Clyburn September 19, 2019
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Marcia L. Fudge released the following statement on the passing of Dr. Emily Clyburn. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Emily Clyburn. My sincerest condolences to my dear friend and colleague Rep. Jim Clyburn, his family and the state of South Carolina as they heal from the loss of an amazing woman. “Emily was a lifelong champion of opportunity and civil rights who transformed the lives of countless people in her community and across the state of South Carolina. Emily and Jim met in jail following a civil rights demonstration – a fact that would define and shape their lifelong commitments to ensuring equality for all Americans. As a librarian, activist, and educator, Emily was steadfast in her dedication to ensuring children had access to a quality education. She leaves a legacy of love, service, and activism that has touched the lives of countless people. Her absence will be felt, but her spirit will live on in all who were blessed to know her. My prayers remain with the Clyburn family.” ### |
