Rep. Fudge Statement on NIFA Workers Unionizing June 11, 2019
Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Statement on NIFA Workers Unionizing
WASHINGTON – Rep. Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement after the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) workers voted Tuesday to unionize in the wake of USDA’s August 2018 proposal to relocate the agency’s Economic Research Service and NIFA outside of Washington, D.C.: “Employees who have dedicated years to USDA deserve a voice at the decision-making table when the fate of their livelihoods are on the line,” said Rep. Fudge. “Even as NIFA’s workforce shows a decrease since announcing relocation plans, USDA continues to ignore the hundreds of federal employees that will be negatively impacted. NIFA workers were given no other choice but to stand up for themselves and exercise their fundamental right to unionize. I applaud NIFA workers for their courage, and for joining their ERS colleagues in unionizing.”
