Congresswoman Fudge Supports Passage of the Budget Agreement
February 9, 2018

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) issued the following statement after the House voted to end another Republican-manufactured shutdown and pass a two-year budget agreement:

“While Democrats did not get everything we wanted, I voted to support this budget agreement because I could not, in good conscience, vote against a measure that will help thousands of children, working families, and retirees in the 11th Congressional District of Ohio.

“This bill makes permanent the reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), delays potentially devastating cuts to Disproportionate Share Hospitals (DSH) that treat our poorest and most vulnerable citizens, and funds our Community Health Centers.  Further, it begins to address the pension crisis and provides a disaster relief package for Americans still recovering from hurricanes and wildfires.

“Just as we came together to fund our nation’s government, we must work together to protect our nation’s Dreamers.  Today, Speaker Ryan said, “My commitment to working together on an immigration measure that we can make law is a sincere commitment.”  We must hold him to that commitment.”
