Fudge Statement on House Passage of the GOP Tax Bill
December 19, 2017

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement after the House voted today to pass the Republican tax bill:

“Today, House Republicans voted to raise taxes on low and middle income families and explode the deficit, all to give tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations.  The Republican tax bill will widen the income inequality gap and make it more difficult for working Americans to realize the American dream.

“The Republican tax bill means working families will pay more in taxes than corporations.  The bill will increase health insurance premiums and leave 13 million Americans uninsured.  With Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security next on the chopping block, this tax bill will disproportionately hurt our nation’s seniors, people with disabilities, veterans and the poor while benefiting the wealthy.

“Despite what Republicans claim, trickle-down economics doesn’t work.  History has proven that tax cuts for the wealthy add to our nation’s deficit, they do not decrease the debt or create jobs.

“I urge my Senate colleagues to grow a conscience and reject this partisan bill on behalf of the millions of hardworking American families across the country.  We must get back to work on bipartisan solutions, not ramming through partisan bills that the majority of Americans oppose.”
