US Department of Justice Awards Policing Grants Authorized in the Recovery Act

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Vice President Biden announced that the Eleventh Congressional District of Ohio was awarded over $14.8 million from the COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP). Representative Marcia L. Fudge supported the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which included $1 billion for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) hiring grant program.
CHRP provides funding directly to law enforcement agencies to retain police officers. The grants will fully fund the salaries and initial three year benefits of officers who are newly-hired, rehired after a lay-off, or scheduled to be laid off.
"The COPS grant program is extremely important to maintain an adequate police presence on our streets. This program comes at a time when the need for safe and secure communities is greater than ever," said Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH).
