Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Statement on Trumpcare June 28, 2017
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement on the House and Senate versions of Trumpcare: “The GOP had seven years to develop a replacement for Obamacare. What they have scrambled to offer the American people is an insult! “Last month, House Republicans passed a prescription for disaster. Under the House version of Trumpcare, more than 23 million hard-working Americans will lose coverage, including hundreds of thousands of Ohioans. Medicare will be diluted and Medicaid will take a $800 billion cut. The cuts to Medicaid will negatively affect care delivered to thousands of disabled children and adults, decrease access to lifesaving treatment needed to combat Ohio’s growing opioid crisis, and severely limit access to nursing home care for our parents and grandparents. “Unfortunately, the Senate bill is arguably worse for Ohio’s most vulnerable communities. Under the Senate plan, premiums will go up by thousands of dollars per year, deductibles will rise, and subsidies for paying those premiums will go down. Americans will face a six-month penalty if their insurance lapses for more than 63 days, and 22 million people will be without care by 2026. “The Republican approach to addressing the health care needs of Americans is heartless. We must fight Trumpcare with all we have to ensure every person can access quality, affordable healthcare. Trumpcare is bad for America and even worse for Ohio.” ### |
