Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Statement on Cuyahoga County 2016 Final Drug Deaths Report May 24, 2017
WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH - Today, Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement regarding the Cuyahoga County 2016 Final Drug Deaths Report, noting the highest annual fatality rate in Cuyahoga County’s history: “This is a crisis of epidemic proportion. It demands our immediate attention. The high number of deaths outlined in this report is devastating to our communities and everyone affected by the loss of loved one, neighbor, or friend. Our families and communities are being ripped apart. “Our state and nation must do everything in our power to ensure drug-addicted Ohioans get the help they need. That means increasing access to treatment, reducing stigmas, promoting awareness, and providing states and municipalities with resources and tools necessary to make a difference. We cannot let another day go by without addressing this problem. Our communities cannot stand to lose another life.” Congresswoman Fudge is committed to working to combat the growing drug crisis and help save lives. Earlier this year, she introduced the Breaking Addiction Act of 2017 and co-introduced The Reforming and Expanding Access to Treatment Act (TREAT Act) to increase access to treatment.
