Washington, DC – Today, Representative Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) voted to pass landmark clean energy legislation that will create millions of new American jobs, limit the pollution that causes climate change, and reduces our dangerous dependence on foreign oil. The American Clean Energy and Security Act builds on clean energy investments made in the Recovery Act, and unleashes private sector investments to create jobs that can’t be outsourced—and American-made technology that can. Following the bill's passage, Rep. Fudge issued the following statement:
”The Greater Cleveland Area has the talent and manufacturing expertise to be the frontrunner in clean energy jobs and the American Clean Energy and Security Act will establish the proper framework Ohio needs to begin that process.
"By supporting America's energy independence, Northeast Ohio will gain thousands of jobs. According to the University of Massachusetts Political Economy Research Institute, 'In the Cleveland Metropolitan area, investment in a clean energy economy would produce 10,421 jobs, over 5,000 for workers with high school degrees or less, and cut unemployment by one percent.' While safeguarding the environment for future generations, we will also provide employment for today's workers.
"I am confident this legislation has the necessary mechanisms to safeguard businesses and protect Americans from rate hikes while spurring a new generation of clean energy jobs."
