Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Statement on the Passing of Gwen Ifill November 14, 2016
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) issued the following statement on the passing of Gwen Ifill:
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend and Soror, Gwen Ifill. I send my sincere condolences to the Ifill family and all who knew and loved her.
“Gwen’s life will be cherished as one of journalistic excellence, innovation, and integrity – from her first job at the Boston Herald American to her final post as co-managing editor of “PBS’ NEWSHOUR.” During more than 40 years as a journalist, anchor and author, Gwen broke down barriers and built bridges – paving the way for other females of color to follow.
“She never embraced the notion of mediocrity and took her job of informing the public very seriously. Gwen’s reporting was recognized around the world as insightful, critical, and fair. When Gwen called, I did my best to answer. I respected her and will always treasure our conversations.
“Gwen’s exceptional professionalism was matched by her good nature and genuine spirit. She was a giant of a woman, an example for us all. Her legacy will continue through the lives she touched, the words she wrote, and the change she inspired.”
