Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Statement on Ohio House Bill 180
June 2, 2016

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH – Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement regarding Governor John Kasich signing Ohio House Bill 180 into law:

“I am extremely disappointed that Governor Kasich signed House Bill 180.  The bill is a complete contradiction of the things the governor says he believes in.

“It is the height of hypocrisy that the Majority in the Ohio State Legislature, who claim to believe in local control and small government, would ignore the will of the people of the City of Cleveland.  The Fannie Lewis Law has been in existence for more than a decade in an effort to ensure that the citizens of Cleveland stand a fair chance of getting work within their own communities.

“In 2014, the governor and I came to an agreement on how to ensure that Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) contracts for projects like the Opportunity Corridor would be inclusive and reflect the diversity of our area.  I hope the governor will stand by our agreement and enforce the hiring and contracting policies already in place with the Opportunity Corridor and other projects underway in and around the 11th Congressional District.”
