Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Announces up to $50 Million for First-in-the-Nation Offshore Wind Project in Lake Erie May 27, 2016
WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS - Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) is pleased to announce the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will award Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LEEDCo) up to $50 million for continued construction of its offshore wind project in Lake Erie. Also known as “Project Icebreaker,” the LEEDCo project is currently the only freshwater wind farm in development in the United States. Congresswoman Fudge released the following statement: “Project Icebreaker is key to ensuring America’s energy future. The first of its kind, the project will bring good jobs, clean energy, and technological innovation to our region. It is my hope these funds will help revolutionize the way renewable energies are used, harnessing one of our greatest natural resources, and positioning Northeast Ohio as a national model. Join me in congratulating LEEDCo for receiving this monumental award!” Project Icebreaker will utilize innovative construction and operations technologies to help lower the cost of offshore wind power and unlock the energy potential of the Great Lakes. Congresswoman Fudge has been a longtime supporter of the project. Along with other Members of the Ohio Delegation, Congresswoman Fudge sent letters to the U.S. Department of Energy in support of LEEDCo in 2016, 2015, and 2014. ### |
