January 19, 2016

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH -  On Friday, January 15, 2016, Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) received the Cleveland Clinic Lifetime of Service Award – Cleveland Clinic’s highest community honor.  Previous awardees include: Reverend Dr. Otis Moss, Jr., Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, and the late, Congressman Louis Stokes.

Congresswoman Fudge delivered the following statement after accepting the award:

“It is a great honor to receive the Lifetime of Service Award in conjunction with an event celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King.  Today we embrace his accomplishments and continue to build the partnerships that will help fulfill his legacy.  I am humbled to receive this award with others from years past.

“Last week, a young person asked me why I chose a path of service. I answered, ‘I didn’t choose public service. Public service chose me.’

“To quote Dr. King, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’’ I have dedicated my life to serving others.

“In tribute to Dr. King and other trailblazers, I pledge to continue to be a pragmatic dreamer, motivated by service to others and focused on making the world a better place for the generations that follow.  Thank you again for this honor.”
