Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Statement on the State of the Union Address
January 13, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement after President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union address on Tuesday, January 12, 2016:

“President Obama focused on where we need to go as a nation, and the topics highlighted reflect the diverse needs and views of many Americans.

"College should be affordable.  Pre-K should be universal.  Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid should be strengthened.  Civil rights should be fought for and preserved.  And, we must find ways to alleviate poverty, combat drug  addiction, create jobs that will support families, and comprehensively reform immigration.

“Unfortunately, Congress cannot address such important issues if we refuse to work together.  It is my hope that tonight’s address will encourage my Congressional colleagues to put partisanship aside for the sake of all Americans.

“The future of our nation depends on the actions we take today.  We can do better, and we must do better.  I applaud the President for reminding us tonight.”
