Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Statement Regarding $100,000 USDA Farm to School Grant to Cuyahoga County November 25, 2015
WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH – Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) is pleased to announce the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) awarded the Cuyahoga County District Board of Health $100,000 under the national Farm to School program. With these funds, Cuyahoga County will engage multiple school districts in expansion of nutrition programs and increasing access to healthy, locally grown foods in Northeast Ohio.
Congresswoman Fudge released the following statement:
“I thank the USDA for its commitment to feeding America’s children through the Farm to School program. A common sense approach to child nutrition that works, Farm to School empowers our children and families to make informed choices, while strengthening the local economy and investing in our communities. I applaud the Cuyahoga County District Board of Health and pledge to continue to support Farm to School programs nationwide.”
The USDA awarded a total of $4.8 million in Farm to School grants for next school year. Cuyahoga County was one of 74 projects spanning 39 states to receive funds.
Congresswoman Fudge is Ranking Member of the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee of the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce. Earlier this year, she co-introduced the bipartisan Farm to School Act of 2015 to expand the program to preschools, after-school programs, and summer food service sites.
