Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Statement Regarding USDA Announcement of $18 Million for 1890 Land-Grant Universities November 20, 2015
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced 53 grants totaling more than $18 million for 1890 Land-Grant Universities:
“I am pleased the USDA has awarded funding to support research, teaching, and innovation at 1890 Land-Grant Universities. As the nation celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Second Morrill Act, these funds are evidence of the ongoing collaboration between the federal government and some of our country’s oldest institutions.
“With these funds, land-grant universities can build institutional capacity, continue to meet the needs of all students, and help increase the number of African Americans in the agricultural sciences. Congratulations to all recipients!”
Ohio’s Central State University (CSU) is among the list of FY 2015 USDA grant recipients. Congresswoman Fudge was instrumental in CSU gaining 1890 Land-Grant status in 2014. The Congresswoman remains committed to supporting CSU and the vitality of all Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
