Congresswoman Marcia Fudge Statement on Independence Day 2015
July 3, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. - This Independence Day, Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) remembers our country’s historic commitment to all Americans.

Among the words immortalized in the Declaration of Independence are: “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”  As we continue to uphold the promises outlined in this document, Congresswoman Fudge releases the following statement:

“This Independence Day, I salute the men and women of our armed forces who defend our nation every day, keeping America the ‘land of the free and home of the brave.’  As a nation, we thank you for your service.

“The United States of America was founded on democratic principles, where everyone was to have a fair shot and a chance to dream. Yet, 239 years after the establishment of our country, the playing field for many Americans remains uneven."

“As we celebrate our freedom this July 4th, let us remember our nation’s commitment to equality for all.  Though we have come far as a country, we still have a long way to go.  We must support the middle class by increasing opportunities for overtime pay, ensure students have access to the best schools regardless of their zip code and advocate for fair and equal treatment for all. There is nothing more patriotic then improving the lives of all Americans.  Happy Fourth of July!”
