Washington, DC – Today, Representative Marcia Fudge (OH-11), joined by House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, sent a letter to the Chief Executives of Chrysler and General Motors regarding their plans for restructuring.
“The Eleventh District of Ohio is invested in seeing our nation’s auto companies succeed,” said Rep. Fudge. “I am committed to helping the auto companies avoid a disorderly bankruptcy so they can remain the engine of our nation’s economy. We must also ensure that Chrysler and General Motors take into account the impact of their restructuring plans on families and communities."
"Chrysler and General Motors are integral parts of our nation's economic and cultural identity. The automotive industry was a central force in the expansion of America's middle class and employed numerous citizens in the Eleventh District of Ohio," concluded Rep. Fudge.
The letters, sent to Chrysler Chairman and CEO Robert Nardelli and General Motors President and CEO Frederick Henderson, request a response that outlines the details and rationale for the following items:
· Completed and anticipated plant closings, workforce reductions, and manufacturing shift changes in both U.S. and non-U.S. operations;
· Completed and anticipated plant openings abroad;
· Completed and anticipated changes in business volume with domestic and non-domestic suppliers; and
· Decisions on consolidating and closing dealerships.
