WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH – Ohioans unsure if their television is ready for the digital conversion should tune in on Thursday, May 21. Eight television stations in the Cleveland-Akron area will participate in a series of digital television (DTV) tests on Thursday, May 21. The DTV tests will take place at 7:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. These stations will replace their regularly scheduled programming on their analog signals with a graphic informing viewers that their television sets may not be ready for the DTV transition on June 12th, and provide direction on how to get more information. Programming on stations' digital signals will not be impacted by the test.
Participating stations include:
• Cleveland-Akron – WBNX, WEWS, WJW, WKYC, WQHS, WVIZ, WUAB, WOIO.
To continue receiving television programming after the transition, Ohioans who receive over-the-air analog broadcasts will need to either buy a converter box that plugs into their analog TV, buy a TV with a digital tuner, or connect their analog TV to cable, satellite or another subscription service. The Federal government is offering two $40 coupons to every American household to cover most of the cost of purchasing a converter box. Additional information is available at www.dtv.gov or by calling 888-CALL-FCC (888-225-5322).
