U.S. Rep. Marcia L. Fudge, D-Warrensville Heights, called her meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres during last month's trip to Israel a once-in-a-lifetime meeting.

She told about 65 people at the Cuyahoga County Public Library's Orange branch in Pepper Pike about the trip she led as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Fudge also met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah.

"Meeting (President) Shimon Peres was a meeting of a lifetime," Fudge told the Cleveland Jewish News March 17 following her talk. "It was an opportunity that very few people in the future will have. To know that I had the opportunity to be in his company for period of time, in the waning days of his public life, was a great experience."

Fudge said that she also found her meetings with Netanyahu and Hamdallah to be "eye-opening experiences."

Fudge said that she hoped her address was well received by the public.

"I try to just say what I think and what I feel," Fudge said. "And I hope that people receive it in that way. I hope they were touched."
