Congresswoman Fudge Congratulates Congressman Watt on Senate Confirmation to Lead the FHFA

WASHINGTON, DC- Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement today following  the Senate confirmation of Representative Mel Watt as the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA):

“I am thrilled that the Senate has confirmed Representative Watt to the independent Federal Housing Finance Agency,” said Congresswoman Fudge.  “He  will provide the skilled and positive leadership needed to advance sound housing finance policies for our nation and effective oversight of the secondary mortgage market.  As America continues to recover from the mortgage meltdown and housing crisis, I am confident that Representative Watt will serve in the best interests of our country and its citizens.   He is a committed public servant, who has earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues in the House and certainly deserved the vote of confidence in the Senate.”

The FHFA was created in 2008 by the Housing and Economic Recovery Act and supervises Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks.  Congressman Watt will head the agency's efforts at promoting and implementing fair lending and mortgage practices, which he has experienced as a corporate and real estate lawyer and member of the Committees on Financial Services and the Judiciary.   Visit the FHFA website to learn more.
