REP. FUDGE ANNOUNCES COPS GRANTS TO POLICE DEPARTMENTS IN THE 11TH DISTRICT September 27, 2013
Congresswoman Fudge Announces Police Departments in the 11th Congressional District will share in $125 million in COPS Office and COPS Hiring Program Grants Washington, DC – Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) announced today that three police departments in the 11th District will receive Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grants from funding made available through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). COPS Hiring Program grants worth $125 million were awarded to 263 local law enforcement throughout the nation including the City of Akron ($1.25M for 10 officers), City of Cleveland ($1.25M for 10 officers), and the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA, $498,990 for 4 officers). “COPS grant programs bring valuable resources to communities to hire or rehire career law enforcement officers. These proven programs boost the ability of our local communities to create safer neighborhoods. I commend Attorney General Eric Holder and the DOJ for recognizing our need. My only regret is that this Congress has failed to appropriate sufficient funding to extend these resources to more communities that struggle to maintain adequate police staffing levels due to cutbacks in their local budgets,” said Congresswoman Fudge. COPS hiring grants provide 75% of funding for approved entry level salaries for up to three years. ## |
