REP. FUDGE STATEMENT ON CELEBRATION OF HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH September 13, 2013
WASHINGTON, DC –Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month: “Each year, between September 15 and October 15, we honor the extraordinary contributions Latino Americans have made to our nation's history - in business, education, government, sports, the arts and the armed forces. We also honor the rich culture and heritage Hispanic Americans bring to communities throughout our nation. “Throughout history, people of Hispanic and Latino descent played a vital role in the economic, political and cultural vibrancy of Northeast Ohio and of our nation. Each year the number of Hispanic owned businesses continues to grow, increasing the economic viability of our community. And each day, the number of Hispanic Americans who have fought to protect our freedom through the armed forces also grows. We thank these men and women for their service and sacrifice. More than 53 million Hispanic Americans share the hopes we all have to achieve the American Dream. We all yearn for a stronger, more prosperous future for our families and for generations to come. “Like so many across our nation recognize, our immigration system is in need of major repair. In June, the Senate passed a bipartisan, comprehensive reform bill. Now, Latino Americans and people of all races and ethnicites are asking the Repubican-controlled House to act to pass comprehensive immigration reform. I stand ready to pass common sense legislation that will secure our borders, protect workers and require employers to follow reasonable laws. I stand with young dreamers who want nothing more than to achieve their goals while contributing to our nation’s prosperity and success. “It is my honor to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and I encourage all of my consituents to learn more about the legacy and contributions of our Latino American friends and neighbors.” ## |
