WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Marcia L Fudge (OH-11) issued the following statement today regarding the termination of Montgomery County Election Board Members Thomas J Ritchie Sr. and Dennis Lieberman by Secretary of State Jon Husted:

“Mr. Ritchie and Mr. Lieberman courageously acted to uphold the rights of all of the voters they were sworn to serve. I regret that Secretary Husted deemed their action a violation of law punishable by termination. Secretary Husted pursed what he believes to be the letter of the law, and in doing so ignored the spirit of the law.

By failing to protect the voting rights of all Ohioans, the Secretary has abused the power of his office. What will happen to any other public servants who choose to stand firm against policies that disenfranchise citizens, and disagree with him?”
