  • Rep. Fudge Co-Introduces Bill to Stop Social Security Garnishments

    Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11), along with Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-03) and John Larson (CT-01), House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Chair, introduced the Protection of Social Security Benefits Restoration Act. As student debt continues to rise, the bill restores federal protections of Social Security benefits, preventing government garnishment of benefits for collection of federal debts – such as student loans.

    Following the recent passage of restrictive anti-choice state laws in Alabama, Georgia and Missouri, U.S. Representatives Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11), Judy Chu (CA-27), and Lois Frankel (FL-21), and U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), joined leading women's health advocates to announce introduction of the Women's Health Protection Act (WHPA). The bicameral federal legislation protects women's health and health care providers' ability to deliver abortion services free from medically unnecessary restrictions. WHPA has 177 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives and 42 co-sponsors in the Senate.
